I, Ana Sami am a Biotechnologist. I had the opportunity to work in Public health and Infectious Disease research and also in Cancer and Stem Cell Research. Working as a freelance Scientific writer since July 2020. Experienced in writing research articles, grants, research reports on topics of public health concern. Employed as a Research Associate at the prestigious Aga Khan University Hospital Karachi’s Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research. Worked with hTERT-MSC cell line, Ovarian Cancer cell lines, Burkitt's Lymphoma cell line performing techniques like Cell Culture, Protein Estimation and Western Blotting etc. Forays into Regenerative Medicine led to Chicken heart and liver Decellularization Assay experiments, learning about scaffolds, etc. Trained in the principle and workings of Confocal Microscopy, Virtual Scanning Microscopy, Chemi-Doc Imaging System and Fluorescence-Activated Cell Sorter (FACS). During my 3-year tenure, I worked on research projects funded by the CDC, GAVI, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, University of Virginia etc. These projects included epidemiological studies, surveillance studies and intervention protocols targeting childhood Pneumonia, Pertussis, Gastroenteritis and Meningitis. The Molecular Biology assays I performed as part of these projects included Taqman Array Card Assay, Magpix Assay for Cytokine Analysis, Real-Time PCR etc. I also participated in a study on Cord Blood isolating Mononuclear Cells and Haematopoietic Stem Cells from the samples and later isolating Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMCs) from peripheral blood samples.
