Ala Santos has 15+ years of multidisciplinary experience spanning cancer and cardiomyopathies research. In her most recent role of a Technical Lead in Abbott Laboratories, Ala spearheaded new technology assessment and development of infectious diseases diagnostics – new generation assays and system. Currently she freelances as a Pharma/Biotech consultant for VCs as well as startups at various levels, from pre-clinical to commercialization stages. In terms of academic achievements, Ala has presented her research at numerous scientific conferences, published articles in prestigious peer-reviewed scientific journals as well as co-authored a book chapter. Ala holds B.Sc. in Biomedical Sciences from Robert Gordon University (Scotland), M.Sc. and Eng. in Biotechnology and Technical Biochemistry from Lodz University of Technology (her native Poland) and PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from The University of Chicago. Ala is the President Emeritus of Women In Bio Chicago (WIB) and engaged healthcare professionals community contributor across Midwest. She is wholeheartedly dedicated to mentorship and serves as a mentor through multiple initiatives, including the Fulbright BioLAB Mentorship Program and WIB’s MAPS. In 2022 she continues to support WIB’s mission as the Advisory Board and Alliance Committee Chair.
