As part of our #researchwithoutborders<\/a> initiative, we’re showcasing cross-border, collaborative projects from around the world. Professor Atanas Atanasov<\/a>, Head of the Molecular Biology department at the Institute of Genetics and Animal Breeding, Polish Academy of Sciences, writes to us about a collaborative project that was carried out across four countries. With contributing labs in Switzerland, Austria and Australia, this project bridged a gap of over 8,800 miles!<\/p>\n

The published research<\/a> work, available on PubMed here<\/a>,\u00a0aimed to identify novel antiosteoporotic inhibitors of the enzyme 17beta-HSD2. The work involved:<\/p>\n

Pharmacophore computer modeling, performed in Austria<\/strong>, and
\nBiological activity testing performed in Switzerland<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/strong>
\nThe compounds provided for the biological testing came from four different labs located at:
\n-The University of Vienna, Austria<\/strong>
\n-The University of Innsbruck, Austria<\/strong>, and
\n-Griffith University, Australia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
