By using different novel mechanisms for improved search exploration and exploitation, modern heuristic optimization tools have demonstrated a great promise for solving real world problems with high mathematical complexity.<\/p>\n<p>The Working Group on Modern Heuristic Optimization under the IEEE PES Power System Analysis, Computing, and Economics Committee is organizing a Panel Session combined with a Competition titled:<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>Evaluating the Performance of Modern Heuristic Optimizers\u00a0<\/strong><strong>on Smart Grid Operation Problems\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The session will be held at the 2017 IEEE PES General Meeting. This panel and competition concerns with two hard-to-solve optimization test beds:<\/p>\n<p>i) Stochastic OPF based active-reactive power dispatch;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Developers: Sergio Rivera (Universidad Nacional de Colombia), Andres Romero (Universidad Nacional de San Juan), Jos\u00e9 Rueda (Delft University of Technology), Kwang Y. Lee (Baylor University), Istv\u00e1n Erlich (University Duisburg-Essen)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>ii) Optimal scheduling of distributed energy resources. All interested researchers are kindly invited to be part of this initiative and to ascertain the effectiveness of their algorithms on these challenging test beds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Developers: Zita Vale and\u00a0Jo\u00e3o Soares (Institute of Engineering \u2013 Polytechnic of Porto)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The problem definitions and implementation guidelines as well as Matlab codes for the\u00a0<strong>test suite can be downloaded from\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.ieee.org\/psace-mho\/2017-smart-grid-operation-problems-competition-panel\/\">http:\/\/sites.ieee.org\/psace-mho\/2017-smart-grid-operation-problems-competition-panel\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>or<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/project\/2017-Grid-Optimization-Competition-Design-Application-of-Modern-Heuristic-Optimization-Algorithms-Considering-the-Stochastic-Behavior-of-Wind-Solar-and-Small-Hydro-Generation-for-Solving-Optimal-Acti\">https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/project\/2017-Grid-Optimization-Competition-Design-Application-of-Modern-Heuristic-Optimization-Algorithms-Considering-the-Stochastic-Behavior-of-Wind-Solar-and-Small-Hydro-Generation-for-Solving-Optimal-Acti<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Final results should be submitted to this email address until\u00a0<u>30th March 2017<\/u>\u00a0in accordance with the guidelines provided. The implementation codes of each algorithm entering the competition should also be submitted along with final results.
