In fact, Trump&#8217;s recent ban is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vox.com\/2017\/1\/29\/14429500\/trumps-immigration-ban-science-research\">already affecting the lives of scientists who live and work there<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Samira Asgari, a 30-year-old Iranian woman, was stopped in Switzerland just before boarding a flight to Boston for a post-doctoral fellowship in genomics at the Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women\u2019s Hospital.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">I was pretty excited to join <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/soumya_boston\">@soumya_boston<\/a>&#8216;s lab but denied boarding due to my Iranian nationality. Feeling safer?<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Samira Asgari (@samsam_86) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/samsam_86\/status\/825366798199554051\">January 28, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>There is a huge wave of unrest not only in America, but worldwide, in protest to Trump&#8217;s presidency and his anti-science actions in particular. We&#8217;ve all seen the Women&#8217;s March that happened on 21st Jan, with participants estimated to be close to 4.8 million worldwide.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1685 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kolabtree.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/womens-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"womens\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kolabtree.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/womens-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.kolabtree.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/womens-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.kolabtree.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/womens.jpg 960w, https:\/\/www.kolabtree.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/womens-300x200@2x.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\">Now, scientists are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/robertglatter\/2017\/01\/26\/scientists-march-on-washington-being-planned\/#749358b556a7\">planning to hold a Science March<\/a> on Washington in protest of Trump&#8217;s policies. The Twitter handle <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ScienceMarchDC\">ScienceMarchDC<\/a>, which has amassed over 220,000 followers urges people to &#8216;Take a stand for science in politics&#8217;. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/marchforscience\/\">Facebook page<\/a>, with a similar number of followers, also offers tips on organizing a similar march in different cities all over the USA.<\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\">\n<p>Trump recently (two days after the Women&#8217;s March) signed an order that prevents federal money going to international groups that advice on or perform abortions. This has been much cause for alarm worldwide, as it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buzzfeed.com\/jinamoore\/trumps-anti-abortion-rule-is-broader-than-anyone-expected?utm_term=.alBYdNY7V#.cqApX5pVd\">prevents access to HIV\/AIDS treatment<\/a>, safe abortion procedures, nutrition, and maternal and child heathcare, among others.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after Trump&#8217;s inauguration, information on climate change on the White House website was removed. Trump has also repeatedly called climate change a hoax, and may now pull the US out of the Paris Agreement, a move that will lead to unrestricted carbon emissions which in turn will have a drastic effect on the planet we live in.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\">The March for Science website says,<\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\">\n<p><em>&#8220;An American government that ignores science to pursue ideological agendas endangers the world.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\">\n<p>We strongly support the March for Science and encourage all of you to make your voices heard!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The recent political climate in the USA is going to affect science and research in a big way (bigly, if you prefer).
