As altera\u00e7\u00f5es variam desde uma simples inser\u00e7\u00e3o de um par de base at\u00e9 grandes dele\u00e7\u00f5es. Este inc\u00f4modo dos engenheiros gen\u00e9ticos - surgido pela primeira vez nos anos 80 - depende de enzimas de corte de DNA chamadas nucleases e do pr\u00f3prio mecanismo de reparo de DNA das c\u00e9lulas. A estrat\u00e9gia geral permanece consistente ainda hoje, mas aprimorada com uma especificidade e efici\u00eancia m\u00faltiplas vezes maiores.  As tr\u00eas estrat\u00e9gias de edi\u00e7\u00e3o de genes em voga incluem as nucleases de zinco-dedo (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zinc_finger_nuclease\">ZFNs<\/a>), ativadores de transcri\u00e7\u00e3o ou n\u00facleos efetores (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Transcription_activator-like_effector_nuclease\">TALENs<\/a>), e agrupados regularmente em repeti\u00e7\u00f5es pal\u00edndromas curtas e espa\u00e7adas entre si (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kolabtree.com\/find-an-expert\/subject\/crispr\">CRISPR<\/a>) junto com a prote\u00edna Cas9.<\/p>\n<p>O advento da tecnologia CRISPR-CAS9, desde 2012, tornou a edi\u00e7\u00e3o de genomas muito menos inc\u00f4moda e mais \"amig\u00e1vel\". Mas, a edi\u00e7\u00e3o de genomas continua envolta em um enigma \u00e9tico.<\/p>\n<p>Sem d\u00favida, os benef\u00edcios da edi\u00e7\u00e3o de genes se refletem melhor no fornecimento mundial de alimentos e nas terapias cl\u00ednicas. Discutirei o impacto e as preocupa\u00e7\u00f5es da edi\u00e7\u00e3o de genes em cada um desses reinos, um a um, nas se\u00e7\u00f5es seguintes. Mas, antes de mergulhar nos pr\u00f3s e contras da edi\u00e7\u00e3o de genes, \u00e9 importante entender que os produtos atuais de <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/difference-between-genetically-edited-crops-and-gmos-2016-2\">edi\u00e7\u00e3o de genes s\u00e3o diferentes<\/a> dos organismos geneticamente modificados (OGM) convencionalmente debatidos e amplamente opostos. Os transg\u00eanicos cl\u00e1ssicos transportam transg\u00eanicos de bact\u00e9rias ou v\u00edrus. Os organismos geneticamente modificados, entretanto, n\u00e3o cont\u00eam nenhum componente de bact\u00e9rias\/v\u00edrus ou outras esp\u00e9cies. A edi\u00e7\u00e3o do embri\u00e3o tamb\u00e9m permitiria eliminar o gene doente em todo o organismo, incluindo sua linha germinativa. Mas e as pessoas com defici\u00eancias menos amea\u00e7adoras de vida, como o nanismo ou a cegueira\/ surdez heredit\u00e1ria?<\/p>\n<p>H\u00e1 tamb\u00e9m a preocupa\u00e7\u00e3o com as pessoas que procuram modificar tra\u00e7os humanos n\u00e3o patol\u00f3gicos - aprimoramento humano gen\u00e9tico para fins cosm\u00e9ticos. Ao inv\u00e9s de cirurgia pl\u00e1stica, as pessoas podem optar por meios gen\u00e9ticos para aprimoramentos cosm\u00e9ticos permanentes para si mesmas. Pode-se imaginar um cen\u00e1rio no qual ter uma caracter\u00edstica f\u00edsica menos \"atraente\", pode causar afli\u00e7\u00e3o mental e pode justificar um aprimoramento cosm\u00e9tico.<\/p>\n<p>Ent\u00e3o, finalmente, \"para editar ou n\u00e3o editar\" genomas?
