Kolabtree Bags NASA’s $175 Million Open Innovation Multi-Contract

Kolabtree is delighted to announce that we’re part of 13 companies joining NASA’s Open Innovation Services (NOIS) 2. As a contract awardee, we look forward to helping NASA solve intricate problems related to their missions by accessing our open-talent pool of global science and industry experts.

The NOIS program and its latest iteration NOIS2 are initiatives that help NASA utilize crowd-sourcing techniques and freelancing platforms to solve high-impact technical problems.

With a ceiling value of $175 million, the program will authorize NASA to seek ideas and initiatives through various avenues such as freelance projects, remote micro-tasks and prize competitions. The contracted companies will deliver technical solutions, engineering designs and a variety of products and services to help advance NASA’s space missions

The third iteration of the NOIS vehicle in 2022 expands NASA’s efforts to foster enhanced collaboration and provides the organization a larger toolkit to effectively tap into resources outside the organization. Through the additional touchpoints created by this program, they can utilize independent expertise worldwide to test new ideas, support ground-breaking research, build prototypes, revolutionize technology and standardize best practices.

Kolabtree, the world’s largest open talent marketplace for scientists, hosts a  global network of scientific writers, top-rated researchers, academic scholars, technical experts, and industry consultants to solve some of NASA’s technical problems and streamline their projects. This also fits into our core vision to democratize access to a global network of on-demand experts and facilitate collaborations between businesses and academia.

Kolabtree will now be an avenue for NASA to scout for subject matter experts, such as scientific writers and product consultants, best suited to solving a multitude of complex problems related to their missions.

The platform consists of PhD-qualified experts across multiple niche disciplines. Through these experts, whose knowledge traverses over 2000 different subject areas from institutes such as MIT and Harvard, Kolabtree makes it easier for companies to access scientific expertise that’s unavailable elsewhere.  From scientific writers and astrophysics to aerospace engineers, there is no dearth of top rated researchers well equipped to work on unique problems and achieve impactful solutions

As part of this process, we will be joining the 19 other companies that were added to the vehicle 2 years ago. This expansion also saw NASA increase the vehicle ceiling from $25 million to $175 million, showing a monumental rise in terms of the emphasis on crowdsourcing and open talent methods to solve real-world technical problems.

Kolabtree Co-Founder and CEO Ashmita Das said “We’re delighted with this opportunity to participate in the NOIS program and work with teams across NASA to tap into the immense talent available on Kolabtree. Scientific research and technology are growing at an incredible pace and it’s increasingly difficult for any single individual or team to keep up with the latest advances.. Organizations, be they large or small, must collaborate with diverse experts to translate this knowledge into innovative products and services.”
