Aujourd'hui, l'histoire de l'oc\u00e9an Indien suscite un regain d'int\u00e9r\u00eat car elle nous rappelle les plus grandes mobilit\u00e9s et travers\u00e9es dont l'impact est tel qu'il nous oblige \u00e0 repenser le fonctionnement des processus de ces rencontres et la signification de ces espaces. De nombreuses histoires restent encore in\u00e9dites au sein de cette ar\u00e8ne interr\u00e9gionale cosmopolite. L'occasion de ce livre est donc ici d'essayer de remodeler notre compr\u00e9hension de l'Afrique et de l'Asie. Comprendre les empires terrestres et maritimes dans l'oc\u00e9an Indien \u00e0 partir de diff\u00e9rentes perspectives m\u00e9thodologiques et de diff\u00e9rents th\u00e8mes et cultures est la principale motivation de ce recueil d'\u00e9tudes. Les deux auteurs ont essay\u00e9 de relire le r\u00f4le de l'histoire de l'Oc\u00e9an Indien, peut-\u00eatre sans les d\u00e9finitions p\u00e9rim\u00e9triques classiques de la politique traditionnelle et des relations internationales.<\/p>\n

Prof. Beatrice Nicolini<\/span> Ph.D. est dipl\u00f4m\u00e9e en relations internationales et en gouvernement compar\u00e9 de l'universit\u00e9 de Harvard, aux \u00c9tats-Unis, et dipl\u00f4m\u00e9e en sciences politiques de l'universit\u00e9 catholique de Milan, en Italie. Elle est titulaire d'un doctorat enHistoire<\/span> d'Afrique de l'Universit\u00e9 de Sienne, en Italie. Elle enseigne Histoire<\/span> et institutions de l'Afrique et Religions, conflits et esclavage. Elle est un membre du comit\u00e9 de l'\u00e9cole de doctorat 'Histoire<\/span> and Politics\u2019 at the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences, Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Milan, Italy. Her recherche<\/a> focuses on the connections between South Occidental<\/span> Asie, le Golfe Persique\/Arabe et l'Afrique de l'Est sub-saharienne. Le Dr Shihan de Silva Jayasuriya est Senior Fellow \u00e0 l'Institute of Commonwealth Studies, School of Advanced Study (Universit\u00e9 de Londres) et membre \u00e9lu de la Royal Asiatic Society (Grande-Bretagne et Irlande). Elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 membre du Comit\u00e9 scientifique international du projet \"La route de l'esclave\" de l'UNESCO (Paris), rapporteur de son bureau, et est actuellement membre de la Commission nationale d'experts du Royaume-Uni de l'UNESCO.<\/p>\n
