Tom Mitchell (profesor de C.S. en la C.M.U.) clasifica el aprendizaje autom\u00e1tico como un programa inform\u00e1tico que se dice que aprende de la experiencia \"E\" con respecto a alguna clase de tareas \"T\" y a la medida de rendimiento \"P\", si su rendimiento en las tareas en \"T\", medido por \"P\", mejora con la experiencia \"E\". En palabras sencillas, la esencia del aprendizaje autom\u00e1tico es <em>cuando un programa inform\u00e1tico puede mejorar la realizaci\u00f3n de una determinada tarea en comparaci\u00f3n con sus actuaciones anteriores<\/em>. Si un programa inform\u00e1tico es capaz de mejorar sistem\u00e1ticamente en un juego cada vez que juega, entonces ese programa inform\u00e1tico est\u00e1 utilizando el aprendizaje autom\u00e1tico para mejorar su rendimiento.<\/p>\n<p>Esto plantea una cuesti\u00f3n cr\u00edtica sobre c\u00f3mo un programa inform\u00e1tico puede aprender por s\u00ed mismo. Por ejemplo, la mayor\u00eda de los programas se comportan de la manera que se les indica. Para la gran mayor\u00eda de los programas inform\u00e1ticos existen directrices y restricciones sobre lo que un programa puede hacer y no puede hacer. Por lo tanto, al principio parece extra\u00f1o que un programa sea capaz de aprender de la experiencia y sea capaz de mejorar despu\u00e9s de cada tarea. Las m\u00e1quinas son alimentadas con toneladas de datos y el algoritmo utiliza sus datos previamente analizados para aprender y tomar decisiones. Por ejemplo, si una m\u00e1quina recibe toneladas de datos sobre el sector inmobiliario, pronto aprender\u00e1 a entender el mercado de la vivienda bas\u00e1ndose en factores como la econom\u00eda, la bolsa, el tipo impositivo y el crecimiento de la poblaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Por otro lado, el aprendizaje reforzado sigue un enfoque diferente al del aprendizaje autom\u00e1tico. El aprendizaje reforzado alimenta a la m\u00e1quina con datos aleatorios o espor\u00e1dicos. Despu\u00e9s de examinar cantidades masivas de datos, la m\u00e1quina es capaz de crear patrones y juicios a partir de los cuales puede aprender.
